Using AI to Grow Your Business by Michelle Young

The people who learn to work with AI this year won’t just save time. They’ll take back
the hours, energy, and focus their work was always supposed to give them.

The to-do list that never ends!

Most of us didn’t take on our work to spend our evenings chasing invoices, rewriting the
same email for the tenth time, or staring at a blank page. We got into it because we had a
vision, a skill, and a desire to make a difference.

Yet somewhere along the way, the work around the work took over. If that sounds familiar,
you’re in good company, and there’s good news: the tools that can take much of that
weight off your shoulders are here, and they are far easier to use than most people think.
I run operations and finance for a technology consulting firm, so I live in the details: audits,
payouts, reports, events, and the endless follow-up that keeps a business running. I can
tell you from experience that AI has changed how I approach all of it. It hasn’t replaced my
judgment. It has given me back the hours I used to lose to repetitive tasks, so I can spend
them on the things only I can do.

What AI actually does for your workday

Forget the science-fiction version. For anyone with a full plate, AI is a tireless assistant
that can draft, organize, summarize, and analyze on request. Here is where it earns its
keep:
Your words, faster. Emails, proposals, event invitations, newsletters, and social posts
go from blank page to solid first draft in minutes. You still add your voice and your final
touch.
Your numbers, clearer. AI can help you spot patterns in reports, check figures against
one another, and turn a pile of data into a plain-English summary you can act on.
Your time, protected. Meeting notes, follow-up lists, and repetitive admin can be
handled in a fraction of the time, which means fewer things slipping through the
cracks.
Your ideas, sharper. Stuck on a name, an offer, or how to explain what you do? AI is a
patient brainstorming partner that never gets tired of your questions.

Notice what these have in common. None of them take away the human part of your work,
the relationships, the trust, the instincts you’ve built over the years. They clear the clutter
so that part can shine.

Why it matters now

AI is quickly becoming a baseline skill, much like email and the smartphone before it. The
people and teams that learn it early gain a compounding advantage: they respond faster,
spend less time on busywork, and have more energy for clients and growth. Waiting
doesn’t keep you safe. It just makes the gap wider.

The good news is that you don’t need to be technical, and you don’t need to overhaul how
you work. You need a few good habits and someone to show you the ropes.

Three ways to start this week

  1. Pick one task you dread. Choose a repetitive job, like a weekly update or a follow-up
email, and ask an AI assistant to draft it for you. Edit it until it sounds like you.
  2. Give it context. The more you tell it about your role, your audience, and your goal, the
better the result. Think of it as briefing a new team member.
  3. Treat it as a partner, not an oracle. Always review the output, check facts, and make
the final call. Your expertise is what makes the result good.
